On the first day of TMC’s (News - Alert) ITEXPO East 2010 conference happening in Miami, FL, Voxeo, an Orlando-based provider of “unlocked communications” announced it has acquired real-time multimedia collaboration platform, ClackPoint.

 

According to officials with Voxeo (News - Alert), the announcement marks the company’s eighth acquisition in the last two years and will allow the company to build upon their strategy to, “enable unified self-service and unified communications applications across voice, video, SMS, USSD, IM and the mobile Web.”

Jonathan Taylor, Voxeo’s CEO said that online real-time collaboration had for a long time only been accessible for larger companies and used stand-alone applications. Now, Taylor said, “ClackPoint makes it easy for anyone to start a free, online, collaborative meeting--using any Web site, application, platform or service.”

“The ClackPoint team and their technology are an ideal match with our vision of Unlocked Communications,” Taylor said.

 

ClackPoint offers online voice, audio and text virtual conference rooms that allow colleagues, friends and social network users to connect and collaborate using any telephone, SIP VoIP device and service, Skype (News - Alert) phone and IM client, or the company’s flash-based phone and IM Web client.

 

 In addition, the company offers pre-built widgets and easy APIs so developers and enterprises can add conferencing capabilities to new and existing applications.

Voxeo also gained ClackPoint's 'Karaka' Skype-to-XMPP gateway as part of the acquisition. This offering connects Skype and XMPP/Jabber clouds so companies can bridge presence and instant messaging between Skype and XMPP.
