Dutch Cable SIP Exchange Project Completes Interop Testing with XConnect Peering System and Nokia Siemens hiQ VoIP Platform

By Raju Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor

The Dutch Cable SIP Exchange project (SIPX), an initiative of the Dutch cable industry, announced successful interoperability testing between the organization’s peering system, provided by XConnect Global Networks, and the Nokia Siemens Networks (News - Alert) hiQ VoIP platform.

The tests proved that SIPX can be connected to existing C7 IN based hiQ platforms for full interconnection to voice services by SIPX members. SIPX members will now get ENUM-based routing and IP interconnectivity from the test solutions with a fallback to traditional (C7 IN) routing.

Developed by XConnect Global Networks and Kayote Networks (News - Alert), SIPX is reportedly the world's first cable telephony peering federation project. Allowing calls from one network to another — bypassing the PSTN and associated toll charges — SIPX provides members with an all IP interconnect. When the participating cable telephony providers maintain an uninterrupted IP path, they can offer hi-fidelity codecs and video telephony on a cross-network basis.

hiQ systems is a part of Nokia Siemens Networks’ Consumer and Business VoIP solution. As proven by the tests, it works seamlessly with the XConnect (News - Alert) ENUM peering federation setup of SIPX and also offers the fallback mechanism to C7.

“For the first time it is proven that hybrid implementations of ENUM and IN interconnection can work perfectly together within a peering federation,” said  Sikko de Graaf, director of CAIW, in a statement. “It will have a great impact on the VoIP peering industry.”

Mark your calendars for Internet Telephony Conference & EXPO — the biggest and most comprehensive IP communications event of the year.  ITEXPO (News - Alert) will take place in Los Angeles, California, September 16-18, 2008, featuring three valuable days of exhibits, conferences, and networking opportunities you can’t afford to miss.
