Idox Deploys C3 IVR to Register U.K. Voters
By David Delony, Contributing Writer
While it may be election season in the U.S., it’s easy to forget that people vote “across the Pond” as well.
Idox, an information management solutions provider, has chosen C3 (News - Alert), a call handling systems provider, to provide a custom IVR solution for the electoral registration process in the United Kingdom.
“We are very impressed with C3 and are confident in their ability to deliver the service that we require within the scheduled timeframe,” Glen Norman, Idox e-Elections product manager said. “Investing in C3’s software allows Idox flexibility to expand its services when required. For example, we can now create new call services to the elections and other markets.”
The custom Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system serves 42 local authorities across the U.K., serving more than four million voters. Over 650,000 of them have used the system to register to vote, using the phone, the Internet and SMS.
The new system runs completely on SIP, using Idox’s C3 software. This allows for “future proofing.” As new features become available, they can be incorporated into the system via software, rather than the whole system having to be scrapped.
As much as the new system benefits from telecommunications, when it comes to elections, still nothing beats paper. Idox has created a “Print and Send” function to distribute paper registration forms to people who have failed to complete their registration on the system for a variety of reasons, including disabilities.
Both the IVR and the Print and Send allow electors to have accurate information on voters, as well as letting them concentrate on other tasks.
“It's encouraging to see that our IVR and Print & Send services are proving beneficial for the general public,” Norman said. “As a company, Idox fully understands the importance of individuals exercising their right to vote and our systems guarantee that those eligible to vote can register to do so through a simplistic and trustworthy process.”
