Calling All Night-Owls: IVR Can Now Cure Your Morning Misery

By Allison Boccamazzo, TMCnet Web Editor

The early bird catches the worm – or at least now thanks to interactive voice response (IVR) solutions it does. IVR has been trickling its way into almost every industry now-a-days and has proven itself a serious contender for transforming everyday technology. Recently, developers at Moshi Lifestyle unveiled their latest IVR innovation – the Moshi Lifestyle Interactive Voice Response Alarm Clock.

A very long list of cons can be drawn up when it comes to our daily morning schedule and the dreaded alarm clock; how loud it is, how little alarm options there are, and worst of all, that rare occasion when it doesn’t go off at all and you wake up late. All of you groggy yet humble ones out there may simply blame your poor morning routine or take it as it is (hey, some of us just aren’t morning people). When it comes down to it, though, this alarm clock phenomenon can be improved upon, and that’s exactly what Moshi Lifestyle did with its latest accomplishment.

The Moshi Lifestyle Interactive Voice Response Alarm Clock is the world’s first fully voice-enabled alarm clock which offers a truly striking solution to these common problems, according to this recent Plum Voice blog.

“Even when completely ignoring Moshi’s unique IVR-integration, this clock is pretty cool,” says the blog.

I myself am an early morning bird and can barely stay up past midnight. Many of my friends and family members, however, are strict night owls. Regardless of your energy levels, one thing remains true – we’re all fearful of mistakenly setting our alarm clocks wrong or waking up late or sleeping through it. The new Moshi Lifestyle IVR Alarm Clock answers all of these problems – literally.

This ingenious device goes above and beyond the humdrum techniques of the everyday alarm clock – which can usually only keep track of the date, time and alarms – by playing a variety of sleep sounds to help you swiftly doze off (like the infamous SleepyTime app for those without smart devices). It also boasts a stunning color-rotating nightlight, and can even gently wake you up with songs from your very own iPod or other Bluetooth-enabled device. The best thing yet is that the device isn’t crowded or overpopulated with buttons or tiny icons like most technology these days; it comes fully stocked with a sleek and appealing design which isn’t disgruntling to first lay eyes on in the early morning.

Now on to the best part of this gadget – its IVR technology – which allows you to change your alarm, pick a sleep sound or perform any other function – all without touching a single button or even looking at the device.

This revolutionary speech integration is so powerful that is has even been recognized by Stevie Wonder, one of the world’s greatest blind icons, as well as the World Blind Union.

For example, you need only say “Hello Moshi,” to activate a command. The device will then acknowledge your voice, flash blue, and ask what you need – all while you talk to it from anywhere in the room.

Now you may think that this sounds great in theory, but it can’t possibly be so fast and efficient as it seems, right? Wrong. Not only are the commands extremely easy to remember, but in case you forget, just say “Help” and the clock will show and reiterate your options for you.

“Recognition is fast, and the voice response plus the clean and easy-to-read light-up display means you get double confirmation that your alarm is set for 6 AM, not PM,” the Plum blog adds.

Because we all know we’ve been there.

Furthermore, the clock doesn’t require any additional work, programming or installation to accommodate your specific voice – much like Plum Voice’s software – and carries a very light price tag (News - Alert) of only $50.

If this does look too steep for you, then you’re still in luck, as Moshi has rolled out its all new (and less expensive) travel alarm clock, in addition to a promising new smartphone application which is soon to come.

I may just try this out for myself and report on my experience!
