Alltel, Nuance Team to Intro Voice2Text

By Jyothi Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor

Alltel (News - Alert) Wireless, a wireless telecommunications provider serving customers in six states, has inked a new partnership agreement with Nuance (News - Alert) Communications.

This new partnership announced by Alltel will allow it to use Nuance’s Dragon Voicemail to Text transcription to power its own Voice2Text service. The service will enable users to read their voicemails straight from their inbox, rather than waiting through voice prompts and having to sit through a message. Users can read their voice messages as texts right on their mobile phone and easily respond to friends, family or colleagues via text.

“Carriers like Alltel need innovative voice services that meet the demands of dynamic mobile consumers,” said John Pollard, vice president and general manager of voice-to-text services at Nuance Mobile. “Dragon Voicemail to Text takes a must-have service like voicemail and delivers it with the speed and convenience required in today's messaging environment.”

Nuance’s Dragon Voicemail to Text service features the same industry-leading voice recognition technology at the heart of the renowned Dragon Mobile apps and Dragon NaturallySpeaking. Messages can be stored or forwarded, and subscribers can still hear the original voicemail recording if needed.

“Our subscribers love the simplicity of our Voice2Text service. They can quickly and easily respond to their messages without having to wait or listen to voice prompts,” said Scott Moody, vice president of Marketing at Alltel Wireless.

This new offer of Alltel’s Voice2Text service is currently available for a free 60-day trial, and then available for $2.99 per month.

Headquartered in Little Rock, AR., AWCC is a subsidiary of Atlantic Tele-Network (News - Alert), Inc.

In related news, Alltel Wireless and Samsung Mobile announced the availability of the Samsung Gem. The Samsung Gem comes equipped with Android 2.1 and provides built-in Google (News - Alert) mobile services including Google Search and Google Maps with turn-by-turn GPS navigation.

The Google user interface applications also allow customers to integrate their Outlook, Facebook (News - Alert) and Gmail contacts, putting everything right where they need it on the large touch screen.
