Advanced Voice Recognition Systems Updates Status of Interference
By Anshu Shrivastava, TMCnet Contributor
Advanced Voice Recognition Systems has provided an update on the status of the Interference in the Board of Patents Appeals and Interferences and a general corporate overview.
Last year on March 9, Mitchell v. Holt Interference was declared, while the proceedings culminated with oral arguments before a panel of three judges in the BPAI on January 13, 2011.
AVRS said that it has not received any communications or decisions from the panel. Corporate counsel for the Interference proceedings indicated that the BPAI seldom communicates until the decision is delivered.
In the past 6-12 months, the mobile automatic speech recognition (ASR) has made significant gains, both in recognition accuracy as well as in the complexity of applications that can be delivered on a mobile device. Company officials said that this is evident with the introduction of new smart phones.
The company’s board and management believe that this shift in the speech recognition market could yield significant opportunities to monetize the patent portfolio. As a result, the company has conducted internal evaluations comparing technology of those products that it believes may be using its patented technology without the benefit of a licensing agreement.
“We also have engaged a patent attorney to review our findings,” the company said in its note. Concurrently, the company is also in communication with intellectual property firms that specialize in technology commercialization to determine possible alternative courses of action.
AVRS is a software development company with patented technology specializing in interface and application speech recognition technology. The company says that it continues to be engaged in the development of interface and application solutions for speech recognition technology.
Earlier in May, AVRS filed the Continuation-In-Part application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) entitled “Dynamic Speech Recognition and Transcription Among Users Having Heterogeneous Protocols.”
