DiaStar Server Adds Speech Recognition Capabilities

By Anamika Singh, TMCnet Contributor

Dialogic Corporation , a provider of products and technologies for multimedia and signal processing, and LumenVox (News - Alert), a provider of speech recognition technologies, announced the integration of the DiaStarTM Server, release 2.1 and the LumenVox Speech Engine.

The integration brings the power and flexibility of the LumenVox ASR solution to Asterisk (News - Alert) developers building voice and video applications with the DiaStar Server. Enhanced features include, speech recognition for English, Spanish, and French; real-time speech recognition using the native Asterisk speech API; support for speech industry standards, including SRGS grammars; compatibility with the LumenVox Speech Tuner to test, troubleshoot and improve speech recognition.

The DiaStar Server or DSS acts as multi-function peripheral that can be implemented as a media gateway, signaling gateway, or media server. DSS operates in support of an Asterisk or other open source implementation via the open-source Woomera protocol. DSS is a Woomera-compliant server and can operate in conjunction with any project or product that implements a corresponding Woomera client.

In addition, the DSS gives developers access to Dialogic (News - Alert)'s media processing software and PSTN network interface technology while still creating applications in a way that is native to the project in which they are working.

These new features will expand Asterisk developers' ability to utilize the DiaStar Server to create applications such as IVVR systems, Video Surveillance Systems, Video Portals, Mobile Advertising and Banking, Multimedia Social Networking and basic Video Call Completion.

'This particular integration highlights many of the benefits of the open source development model and the client server architecture used with the DiaStar Server,' stated Antony Martin, Director of Open Source Engineering at Dialogic. 'We were able to leverage the previous work of LumenVox to integrate its products with Asterisk and get this integration working by only adding one simple function to DiaStar.'

'This solution brings even more value to users of LumenVox and Asterisk, whether they are existing customers or brand new users,' added LumenVox President Edward Miller.

'With DiaStar's seamless integration, it is now simple to build a voice and video IVR with world-class speech recognition,' Miller says.
