Language Line Services Expands Workforce

By Carolyn J Dawson, TMCnet Contributor

Language Line Services is a language-based solutions provider. The company plans to add more than 1,000 new positions to keep up with the increasing demand for its over-the-phone, over-video and face-to-face interpretation services. This workforce expansion is due to Language Line Services' recent launch of four new interpretation solutions and offerings such as Language Line Mobile Interpreter, Language Line On-site Interpretation Service, Interpreter Certification and Security Clearance, & Video Interpretation Service Partnership with NexTalk, Inc.

Language Line Mobile Interpreter is the first Apple iPhone (News - Alert) application with on-demand, unlimited access to live interpreters in 10 languages. Language Line On-site Interpretation Service offers California-based healthcare providers a new option for improving communications with limited-English-speaking patients and their families.

Interpreter Certification and Security Clearance meets the increasing demands from new and growing contracts with federal agencies such as the Department of Homeland Security. Video Interpretation Service Partnership with NexTalk, Inc. works with Utah-based NexTalk, Inc. which is a company in deaf-accessible enterprise communication and remote interpreting solutions, to offer an enhanced, computer-based version of Language Line Video Interpreter Service.

Louis Provenzano, Language Line Services' President and Chief Operating Officer, noted that business continues to grow as a result of ongoing demand from new and existing clients for the company's suite of innovative, high-quality language solutions.

Louis said that Language Line Services currently helps 90 percent of U.S. 9-1-1 call centers, 75 percent of Fortune 500 companies, and thousands of hospitals and government agencies across the country speak the languages of their patients and residents using their base of professionally trained and employed interpreters. Louis added that even with these strong market positions, they feel it is necessary to prepare for continued growth with this significant workforce expansion.

Expansion plans call for staff increases at all of Language Line Services' offices, including company headquarters in Monterey, CA (News - Alert); regional offices in Elk Grove, IL, Glendale, CA, Portland, OR, and Tucson, AZ; new work-from-home positions to help the company maintain its traditionally no commute, no pollute staffing model. Approximately 80 percent of Language Line Services' interpreter workforce operates from home-based offices.

Provenzano said that they welcome hundreds of new members to their team of the interpreters, translators and language professionals.
