Google's Nexus One Handset Added to DeviceAnywhere Test Center

By Calvin Azuri, TMCnet Contributor

DeviceAnywhere has added Google’s (News - Alert) Nexus One handset to its portfolio of devices accessible via DeviceAnywhere Test Center.

Initially, the device will be available to developers through DeviceAnywhere’s Android, AT&T and T-Mobile (News - Alert) USA packages.

Nexus One is Google’s first self-branded mobile device. Google has dubbed Nexus One as the first “superphone,” as it runs on Android 2.1 and is powered by Qualcomm’s (News - Alert) Snapdragon processor. The Nexus One has a number of innovative features such as a voice-enabled “keyboard” for all text fields and advanced personalization options. All of these features are available for developers to interact with and test on through the Test Center.

Application developers need timely access to next generation devices since faster access means a faster time to market.

According to Faraz Syed, CEO and co-founder of DeviceAnywhere (News - Alert), as smartphones proliferate and software and applications become central to the user experience, testing, test automation and monitoring become more critical.

Syed added that over the last few months, DeviceAnywhere has noticed increased interest from developers wanting to test their applications on Android (News - Alert)-based devices as the device and application ecosystem grows. As Nexus One has effectively become the flagship Android device, DeviceAnywhere needed to ensure developers could interact with networked Nexus One devices immediately from anywhere around the world.

DeviceAnywhere Test Center is built on DeviceAnywhere’s patented device interaction technology, Direct-To-Device. The DeviceAnywhere Test Center enables developers around the world to connect to and control mobile devices over the Internet for all application and content testing needs.

For example, developers will be able to remotely press handset buttons, view LCD displays, listen to ringers and tones and even play videos through DeviceAnywhere Test Center’s non-simulated, real-time platform. The DeviceAnywhere Test Center provides developers with more than 2000 commercial and pre-commercial handsets deployed in data centers around the world.
