By Calvin Azuri, TMCnet Contributor
AT&T has announced it selected Language Line Services to provide language assistance for U-Verse and all other AT&T (News - Alert) telecommunication services.
In addition, Language Line Services’ existing partnership which helps to provide over-the-phone interpretation services to AT&T’s West Coast customer service and sales centers has been expanded to include AT&T's Southwest and Midwest customer service and sales departments.
According to Louis Provenzano, president and COO of Language Line Services, almost 23 million people in the U.S. are considered to have limited English proficiency.
Language Line Services offers telephone interpreting and language solutions and serves clients in industries like government, healthcare, telecom, financial services and insurance by quickly connecting them to their customers in more than 170 spoken languages as well as American sign language and Mexican sign language.
Officials with AT&T said the company created an aggressive communications program with Language Line Services in order to accomplish its diversity goals.
In 2006, the two companies partnered to launch “Your World. Your Language.” This free phone service uses a toll-free telephone number that connects LEP consumers to banking, insurance, telephone, Internet, utility and other vital business services in their native languages within their local metropolitan areas.
