Users Can Now Back Up .Tel Domain
By Divya Narain, TMCnet Contributor
London-based Telnic Limited, the registry operator for the new .tel Top Level Domain, has reportedly unveiled a new functionality that lets .tel domain owners backup and restore their domains. Integrated into the Web control panel, the functionality has been introduced in response to the feedback from the .tel community.
The new functionality stores a backup copy of one or all .tel domains owned by a business or individual as an XML file. All the data, including contact information, profiles, groups and 'friends' of the .tel domain that have access to private information are backed up. The domain data can be restored from the file whenever needed.
"This functionality is especially useful when migrating domains from one registrar or .tel service provider to another, but it is also a useful safeguard for those .tel owners running large-scale directories under their own domains," Henri Asseily, chief technology officer, and chief strategist at Telnic (News - Alert), in a statement. "Bulk management of .tel domains right through to the ability to mirror your IVR solution in your .tel domain using existing XML files can all be achieved through the Web-based control panel."
Other features that have been added to the control panel include the ability to have multi-lingual sub-folders, enabling international languages to be used within sub-folder links. This feature effectively delivers complete multi-lingual capabilities to the .tel outside of internationalized second-level domain names, ensuring brighter prospects for future development.
Telnic launched the .tel domain in Feb this year, according to a TMCnet report. .tel acts as a worldwide contacts database for people. When you register for a .tel domain name, it acts as a stockpile of your URLs, email addresses, phone numbers, usernames, and locations. For each contact, users can enter a keyword, which will become a link which will open the particular contact the moment it is clicked.
