Nuance (News - Alert) Communications, a provider of speech and imaging solutions for businesses and consumers, announced that its T9 and XT9 predictive text input products will be implemented in LG Electronics’s (News - Alert) upcoming portfolio of mobile phones (both lower-end and smartphones).

Nuance’s T9 and XT9 are part of the company’s broad mobile portfolio, which includes pervasive speech input solutions. Predictive text input software facilitates faster text messaging and easier access to mobile services.

This move will make it possible for LG consumers to send text messages and emails quickly and easily via any keypad format (standard, touch screen 12-key and QWERTY keypads).

In addition, LG will also be leveraging Nuance's extensive language support, which currently features more than 80 languages and dialects. Some of these include Chinese PTI (Phrasal Text Input) and SBI (Sentence Based Input), and Indic languages such as Hinglish.

The T9 offering can predict an entire phrase and help users to type less. It also enables users to easily store and use favorite slang, abbreviations, codes and emoticons and back up their personalized T9 word database to be transferred from one device to another.

The XT9 offering is a multi-modal user interface solution designed for feature rich smartphones and mobile devices. It features word correction so users can write text messages and emails faster and easier and like the T9 offering, allows users to quickly enter URLs on phones that feature an HTML Web browser.
