Mellanox Interconnect Technologies Drive Performance and Scalability for HP

By Raju Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor

Mellanox (News - Alert) Technologies has announced that its InfiniBand-based adapter and switch solutions will help provide the interconnect backbone on the recently announced HP Oracle (News - Alert) Database Machine. Helping to reduce the data and storage bandwidth bottlenecks associated with querying large data warehouses, Mellanox ConnectX adapters and InfiniScale III and IV-based switch systems deliver extremely high bandwidth and low latency for both clustering and storage connectivity.

An efficient, high performance interconnect is necessary to provide greater levels of performance and scalability in demanding business intelligence and large data warehousing applications. Mellanox InfiniBand products deliver bandwidth and latency which have a direct implication on critical business intelligence and data warehousing applications. Facilitating their users to analyze more data faster and raise their levels of competitiveness, companies can now scale their data warehouses more easily.

For both clustering and storage connectivity, Mellanox ConnectX adapters and InfiniScale III and IV-based switch systems deliver extremely high bandwidth and low latency. This helps to reduce the data and storage bandwidth bottlenecks associated with querying large data warehouses. Customers can now get large data warehouses to run more queries concurrently with these features.

Mellanox Technologies supplies semiconductor-based, interconnect products to world-class server, storage, and infrastructure OEMs servicing Fortune 500 data centers, the world’s most powerful supercomputers, and mission critical embedded applications.

With the Virtual Protocol Interconnect (VPI) of the company, standard communication protocols can operate over any converged network (InfiniBand, Ethernet, Data Center Ethernet) with the same software solution.

“Mellanox is a long-time partner of Oracle and a major contributor to the open source RDS protocol in OpenFabrics which is used by the HP Oracle Database Machine,” said Eyal Waldman, chairman, president and CEO at Mellanox Technologies. “This is an extremely exciting announcement that will help customers get faster access to critical business information. We are delighted to see the fruits of our collaborations to integrate our leading InfiniBand products with the HP Oracle Database Machine.”
