SoftBank IDC Deploys Foundry NetIron XMR Routers
By Arun Satapathy, TMCnet Contributing Editor
Foundry Networks (News - Alert) today announced that its NetIron XMR 4000 and NetIron XMR 8000 IPv4/IPv6/MPLS routers have been installed by SoftBank IDC Corporation for network backbone and server aggregation throughout its distributed data centers.
SoftBank IDC (News - Alert) provides services including Web hosting, collocation, network connectivity, security, and operations management to customers by leveraging synergies within the SoftBank Group.
NetIron XMR routers will help SoftBank IDC to streamline its transition from IPv4 to IPv6, and to offer10Gbps service across its entire data center network.
The NetIron XMR routers offer SoftBank IDC a highly integrated IPv4/IPv6 routing solution facilitating a seamless transition to IPv6 without compromise. The routers feature port capacity and density with all-port wire-speed routing powered by terabit-scale architecture for enhancing service scalability and maximizing efficient use of rack space.
In addition, the routers' low power and cooling requirements and power efficiency, as low as 8.6 watts/Gbps, will help SoftBank IDC to scale its capacity while optimizing its power and cooling utilization to advance its eco (News - Alert)-initiatives under Japan's Team Minus 6 Percent initiative for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The routers used by SoftBank IDC are the NetIron XMR 8000, an 8-slot 7RU system with up to 32 10-gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) ports, and the NetIron XMR 4000, a 4-slot system 4RU system with up to 16 10GbE ports.
The NetIron XMR Series of routers is designed to meet the application needs of Internet service providers (ISPs) and multi-service backbone operators demanding high reliability and scalability. The NetIron XMR Series features wire-speed IPv4/IPv6/MPLS routing, redundant management modules, switch fabric, power, and cooling system.
“We are pleased that SoftBank IDC installed the NetIron XMR routers to expand data center services for its customers,” said Ahmed Abdelhalim, director of product management and marketing for Foundry's High-End and Service Provider Systems Business Unit. “The combination of high-routing functionality and performance with industry-leading resiliency and efficiency makes them a compelling solution for operators looking to enhance service portfolio while maximizing overall efficiency.”
Softbank (News - Alert) IDC Corporation is a data center operator established in 1986. The company operates eight data centers and provides data center solutions including network security and operation monitoring.
