Voice Assist Announces Hands-Free Two-Way Texting for Maximum Safety

By Deepika Mala, TMCnet Contributor

Voice Assist, a developer of hosted speech services and voice "in-application" technology, released Voice Assist Standard with two-way texting. Consumers, through Voice Assist, can text by voice from any phone or device to any phone or wireless-connected device, even mobile phones, without a text plan. Individuals who are driving or who are busy to receive a text by voice and reply are able to maintain maximum safety by remaining hand free.

According to the International Telecommunication Union, in 2010, the number of mobile phone subscriptions worldwide reached 4.6 billion. It is expected to increase to 5 billion this year. In addition, each month in the U.S., about 5 billion text messages are sent, according to the CTIA (News - Alert), a wireless trade association.

Teenagers play a significant role in text messaging's surge. Texting is a routine means of communication for people in that age group. According to a Pew (News - Alert) Internet & American Life Project survey in March 2010, about 63 percent of Americans from ages 18 to 27 text message.

"We are excited to be eliminating the barriers of communication and the generation gap," said Michael Metcalf, CEO of Voice Assist. "With over 4 billion mobile phones, text messaging is becoming the number one data application of all time. Because Voice Assist is a cloud-based program, the program works on any phone or device and on any network. Now teens can text their parents and grandparents, and their parents and grandparents can listen and send a text back using any mobile phone or even the same old landline phone they've owned for years. The executive in the boardroom can send a text using a Blackberry and his wife can receive it by voice while driving the kids to soccer practice. Now anyone can send a text to anyone else — all by using simple voice commands."

It has been estimated by the National Safety Council that at least 28 percent of all traffic crashes or at least 1.6 million crashes each year are caused by drivers using cell phones and texting. By using Voice Assist, drivers can keep their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road while sending and responding to text messages in order to prevent accidents.

In related news, Voice Assist, Inc has appointed Robb Cason to the company’s executive team as vice president of enterprise sales.
