AdelaVoice Debuts SmartTalking Mobile Application Developer Initiative

By Raja Singh Chaudhary, TMCnet Contributor

AdelaVoice, a Boston-based provider of technologies and services that enable the development of creative solutions for mobile phones and smart devices, will introduce the StartTalking Mobile Application Developer Program, an initiative that will help the developers to add a voice-driven user interface to their applications in a fast and low-cost manner.

The program is powered by StartTalking, a cross-carrier eyes- and hands-free texting solution already provided by the company.

chompSMS is the first participant of the program, which will leverage StartTalking to enable its well-known Android (News - Alert) SMS application for being used while driving, with an aim to address the growing concern of distracted driving. chompSMS also offers native support for StartTalking's Voice Texts within an SMS-based conversation stream, so that the user can listen or reply to received messages in a convenient and hassle-free way.

According to Martin Cantwell, co-founder and president of product development at chompSMS, integrating a complete eyes- and hands-free texting solution would seem like an enormous task, while through company’s partnership with AdelaVoice it simply took a few hours of integration work, and everything worked seamlessly the first time. Cantwell noted that AdelaVoice’s developer program is a great concept that has been well implemented, and thanked the company for that.

As a part of the StartTalking Mobile Application Developer program, Android application developers can reduce distracted driving and at the same time address a number of on-the-go user activities. These may include composing, sending and receiving SMS messages while driving; using only voice to select contacts to place and receive calls from the phone's native dialer or via third-party apps; launching and updating GPS and other location-based apps while driving, walking or biking; updating the social or business network status without taking the phone out of the pocket or purse and scheduling an appointment with a calendar application.

As the first ever mobile messaging application of its kind in the world, StartTalking helps motorists in carrying on their necessary activities associated with their mobile phones, while keeping their eyes on the road and hands firmly upon the wheel. Android developers can leverage the new StartTalking Mobile Application Developer Program to access turnkey technology portfolio that includes a voice user interface that defines the grammar and messaging between StartTalking and the Android application.

The interface has also been equipped with a number of other enhanced features, such as an embeddable “drive-mode” button to toggle StartTalking on or off within the app; voice-navigation controls; AdelaVoice's Attention Technology that lets users wake up their device without touching or looking at it; text-to-speech features for reading information to users and an automated speech recognition dictation engine to provide spoken information to the application.

StartTalking was launched in September.
