TMCNet: Aigo to Tap into TD Handset Market

Aigo to Tap into TD Handset Market

BEIJING, Oct 22, 2008 (SinoCast China IT Watch via COMTEX) --
Aigo will soon tap into the TD-SCDMA mobile phone market, says Feng Jun, president of Beijing Huaqi Information Digital Technology Company Limited, the company behind the brand Aigo.

First it will start from 2G handsets and then venture into the most profitable 3G sector. And it will step up its efforts to expand into the international market. The president notes that the company is brewing strategic expansion based on its vast IT product selling network.

The latest three CDMA mobile phones launched by Aigo have been adopted by China Telecom in a recent procurement. Aigo is scheduled to deliver these phones to the telecom carrier in the fourth quarter of 2008.

To ride the 3G boom, Aigo is about to launch a host of new hits covering all three international 3G standards: TD-SCDMA, WCDMA, and CDMA 2000. But, the president stresses that Aigo will give the priority to TD handsets because TD-SCDMA is China's homegrown 3G standard.

So far four handsets of Aigo have got the license to join the telecom network from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. And three of its CDMA mobile phones have won a contract from China Telecom for 100,000 sets.

Mr. Feng says confidently that Chinese IT companies are confronted with a big opportunity overseas in the midst of widespread crisis as the global economy is slowing down. They are to be the savior of the sluggish global market by taking the advantage of China's powerful manufacturing prowess.

As the purchasing power of consumers in some developed countries is falling steeply, the domestic consumption is shrinking. Now they are giving their conventional consumptive idea and financial management concept a second thought and turning their heads to products with the best cost performance. And the made-in-China products can just enough meet their demand.

And the president believes that the confluence of opportunities and crisis will trigger reshuffle of the global consumer electronics market.

As early as 2003, Beijing Huaqi Information Digital Technology has been laying the groundwork for its international expansion. In August 2003, it set up its first overseas branch in Singapore. Since then, it has established branches or subsidiaries in Hong Kong, India, the UK, France, and so on.

The company's international strategy shows that it will first expand its footprints to Southeast Asia, then Europe, and the US finally.

This year the company has set up its arm in the US. And it is now considering cobbling its market campaigns with basketball and baseball leagues there to tap the local market. In European market, it has been one of the sponsors of F1.
